Janeé got a taste for cross-cultural exchange in Europe after high school and loves how it broadens horizons for both the host and the guest. Janeé has served five non-profit health care and human services organizations in Texas and Minnesota through her degree in Communications, often organizing adult learning activities and empowering volunteers. She has also been enriched by short-term cross cultural exchange in Central America and SE Asia. Prior to CXI she was Exec. Dir of the Hospitality Center for Chinese in St. Paul. Director of Student Engagement
Having married an international student, Barbara has first hand knowledge of the needs and challenges they face and loves to help them find joy along their journey. Barbara is certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). In addition to teaching classes for CXI, Barbara assists incoming international students, scholars, and their families in practical ways as they acclimate to life in the US. She brings enthusiasm to CXI activities and has served on staff connecting with our guests for more than a decade! Barbara welcomed three grandchildren into the world in early 2019! Dr. Oleksandr “Sasha” Komarenko
Oleksandr joined the CXI staff in April in a part time role. He coordinates the planning, publicity and hosting of classes and activities. He comes with first-hand experience, having arrived to a college in Mankato from Ukraine two decades ago. His credentials include a Ed.D. in Counselor Education: College Student Affairs, and a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language. He brings many skills to our team, as well as a deep desire to serve international students well. Conversation Partners, our 2nd and 4th Saturday event, is the best place to meet Sasha. Joshua and Amy Barnard
Joshua and Amy are our newest recruits. They will be focused on doing outreach and a English/culture class. Joshua will be part-time with us and Amy will assist where she can. As a couple they come well prepared to serve the internationals we connect with. They worked for NGOs in China for over seven years, both speak Mandarin with proficiency, both have obtained TEFOL certificates and have taught English classes for many years. Since returning to America, they have been relating with internationals on the University of Minnesota campus through HCC, SVC and Chi Alpha.
